With the Pokémon TCG constantly releasing new sets, there are always treasures to be found. However, keeping up with everything can be challenging. Most collectors focus on their favorite sets, themes, or Pokémon. This blog post highlights my top three modern sets: Crown Zenith, 151, and Prismatic Evolutions. These sets are not only fun to open, but they also feature beautiful illustrations that can stand the test of time.
Why These Sets Matter
For these three sets, I see a combination of breathtaking artwork, unique card textures, and the joy they bring during the pack-opening experience. Each set has its charm that resonates with collectors and fans alike.
Crown Zenith: A Treasure Trove of Beauty and Excitement
Let’s start with Crown Zenith, the final expansion of the Sword & Shield era. This set captures the spirit of celebration, combining nostalgia and innovation. It features a stunning gallery extension and is the last to showcase the distinctive yellow borders.
In my opinion, the best cards are found in the Galarian Gallery. Here, the variety of Pokémon is displayed in breathtaking full-art designs. If you've seen Lumineon, Mew, or Darkrai, you know the level of artistry and care that went into these illustrations. Each card tells a compelling story and looks beautiful in its own right.

What sets Crown Zenith apart even more is the unique texture of its gold cards. Cards like Giratina, Arceus, Dialga, and Palkia are unlike any gold cards we’ve seen before.
Overall, this set is exceptionally fun. The hit rates are high, making the opening experience satisfying. The artwork is unique, and discovering new cards is genuinely exciting. Crown Zenith will remain a fan-favorite for years. Its beautiful artwork and exciting pulls capture the spirit of the last Sword & Shield expansion. It's one of those sets like Hidden Fates that will be remembered fondly.
151: A Love Letter to Kanto
Next up is 151, a set that takes us back to the beginning, the Kanto region. This set pays tribute to the original 151 Pokémon. It brings back the nostalgia of the first generation with modern, high-quality production values. 151 feels like a celebration, honoring the Pokémon that started it all. The vibrant, detailed artworks and clean layouts are a treat for the eyes.
What truly makes this set shine are the Special Illustration Rares and Illustration Rares. These feature some of the most impressive illustrations of beloved Pokémon in TCG history. Interestingly, it's not just about the big hitters. The Poliwhirl is just as eye-catching as Blastoise ex. Similarly, I appreciate Caterpie as much as Bulbasaur.

151 has longevity written all over it. Its focus on iconic Kanto Pokémon will always resonate with collectors’ hearts. It’s an ideal set to introduce newcomers to the world of Pokémon TCG. This set has the potential to become a classic.
Prismatic Evolutions: A Glimmering Future
Finally, let’s discuss Prismatic Evolutions, a set that brings a fresh twist to the Pokémon TCG. This set focuses on stunning Prismatic cards that are a feast for the eyes. Each card is layered with shimmering foil that catches light from every angle. The result is a stunning effect that makes these cards feel like they belong in a museum of Pokémon art.
The set centers around Eeveelutions and boasts striking art that guarantees its success. It's no surprise that the Umbreon ex chase card is as popular as the Evolving Skies Moonbreon.

The artwork in Prismatic Evolutions is a step forward. Many cards feature ultra-detailed backgrounds, often with hints of cosmic or fantastical imagery. This elevates each Pokémon to a new level of mystique. The set feels almost ethereal, like stepping into a dream.
Prismatic Evolutions appears to be a set that will continue to grow in value over time. The Pokémon Company has indicated that they will carry out reprints to meet high demand. This may slightly lower prices temporarily, but, like Evolving Skies, I believe this set is destined for the top tier of the Pokémon TCG in the long run.
The Lasting Appeal of These Sets
What’s incredible about these three sets is their lasting appeal. While the Pokémon TCG has released many outstanding expansions, Crown Zenith, 151, and Prismatic Evolutions stand out. They not only feature stunning art and rare cards but also capture the essence of why we love Pokémon: nostalgia, wonder, and excitement.
These sets are not just for playing; they’re for collecting, admiring, and reliving the magic of the Pokémon world. If you’re a collector or just someone who loves opening packs, these three sets will undoubtedly hold a special place in your heart for years to come.
So, take a trip down memory lane with 151, revel in the glory of Crown Zenith, or bask in the shimmering beauty of Prismatic Evolutions. You won’t regret it!
